After experimenting with the new GRE system in the final months of 2011, the GMAT test has announced a new section on testing, which presents a new challenge for future business students who want to study in the United States. We show you more details about the current structure of the exam, new features and how to prepare effectively for the exam.
The organization responsible for the GMAT exam has developed criteria for evaluating candidates for study in business schools around the world. The exam will aim to evaluate the verbal, mathematical and analytical skills that are sought by the business schools in the students nominated to join.
The skills needed to pass the test evolve through study and work experience, so that these skills may evolve in a way that you cannot observe. However, this does not mean that you can skip the good preparation for the exam. This preparation lasts for an average of 4 hours, and the GMAT test is like a race that needs serious training.
Exam structure
The Analytical Writing Evaluation section of the GMAT test is designed to measure your ability to think critically and communicate your ideas. This section contains two types of evaluation:
Question analysis: You will be required to analyze an existing issue or current topic and express your point of view, and you can use your general knowledge on the subject. You won't need to prove your well-versed knowledge of the subject, but be able to discuss the matter in a good way.
Argument analysis: In this question you will analyze the underlying reasons behind a particular argument, without expressing your personal opinions, and writing a critique of this argument
In these two questions it is important to plan your answer, support it with relevant examples and review the grammar.
The quantitative section tests your ability to think quantitatively, solve quantitative problems, interpret and read graphs, and consists of:
Problem solving Questions: It is designed to test your basic understanding of mathematical concepts and your ability to solve problems in a logical way.
Charting adequacy Questions: You will combine a little bit between verbal analysis skills and quantitative problem-solving skills, and this question will result in a problem analysis,
Reading section: includes a range of different paragraphs whose words reach about 350 words. These reading paragraphs contain topics in life sciences, social affairs or related work areas. You will need to prove your knowledge of these areas specifically, and any information you will need to answer the questions of this section will be in reading paragraphs,
As part of the Reading and understanding section, you will also have a question about correcting sentences, and you will have 5 different options to complete the sentence, and you will answer based on your knowledge of English, grammatical, and syntax style rules. You may also sometimes be asked to improve incorrect or ineffective expressions,
Integrated analysis (new section): Starting from the month of June 2012, the GMAT test will evaluate an area previously not measured, namely the ability to process and interpret data from several different and diverse sources. This section will be allocated 30 minutes during which you will be presented with numerical and numeric information that you are expected to analyze.
